WHILE THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT RESEARCH, SOURCES, OR CITATIONS, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO library@sfuhs.org AND HAYLEY OR TAMARA WLL GET BACK TO YOU DURING REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS.

Getting started

If you want some grounding on your country before you start exploring current events there, have a look at these BBC Middle East country profiles (the BBC puts Turkey as part of Europe) for a quick sketch of the current situation and key historical events.

Once you've done that, start looking at the current event sources below.

Remember you are writing a paper about a Middle Eastern country not the USA.

Middle East based English-language news sites

Be sure to establish the purpose of the news outlet - read the "About" section and/or Google it:

  • Where is it based?
  • Who is financing it?
  • Who is it supporting?
  • What is its bias?

Middle East news from Western outlets

These Western news sources have Middle East sections on their sites.

  • Who is it supporting?
  • What is its bias?
  • Be aware that they are reporting stories through a Western lens.
  • Be aware they are reporting stories with a Western connection or interest.

More general Middle East current events sites

Be sure to establish the purpose of the news outlet - read the "About" section and/or Google it:

  • Where is it based?
