News sites in English covering African countries

These are sites that have news from countries all over the African continent. Most have a way to navigate to specific countries and/or a search function.

All Africa
Click on the "Countries" link (from the drop down menu at top left) to find your country. Check out the other tabs including Development and BizTech.
AfricaNews
This has videos including news reports and there are also sections on business, culture, and sports. Use the search function to look for your country.
African Arguments
More magazine-style opinion pieces than newspaper stories, this has some great options for your current event stories. There are some specific country sections or you can browse the different sections.
Aljazeera
Google Aljazeera and your country to get a page of news about your country.
BBC News: Africa
Remember that this is a British news source so it will have a Western bias in terms of what's reported and how it is reported.
United Nations News
You can search for your country. All news is related to topics in the realm of the United Nations. Nice because it is ad-free.
The Africa Report
This magazine has news stories by topic and there are specific pages for some countries. It also includes opinion pieces and longer in-depth articles. However, you may not be able to see the whole article.
The Conversation: Africa
An independent source of news and views, sourced from the academic and research community.
New African magazine
You can browse West Africa articles from the Regions drop down menu or search your country.

Nations Online
Find your country - many of the entries have links to news media outlets. You may need to use Google Translate on some of the links.
Newspaper Map: Africa
This map links to newspapers all over the world, here focused on Africa. There is a translate button that allows you to translate any site into English.

Suggestions for specific countries

Try searching "news your country name" in Google. You'll get links to different news sites including the BBC, France24, and Aljazeera.

How to use a current events story for research

Here are some questions to think about when you're looking for a news story:

Is it something I'm interested in?
Does the story connect to a larger theme in history?
Is there enough information in the story for me to analyze?

Guiding prompts

These prompts will help you get the most out of your current events articles:

Summarize the news story
What groups or individuals are involved in this?
What larger topic does this relate to?
How does this connect to a larger historical context?
What do you need to know more about after reading this article and what search terms could you use?
Collect the information for your bibliography.
